What happens tonight could really hurt him, but I have a feeling that it won’t hurt that bad. One of our mutual friends, Matt, is celebrating his 21st birthday party. I talked to my boss and I am going to take half of the day off tomorrow (the first half) so that I can attend the shenanigans. He may feel awful tomorrow but its not going to kill him - it’s an initiation rite that many of us have been through and almost all have survived without any long lasting injury. I don’t expect him to last long but I’ll be sure to take pictures of what happens - whether he wants me to or not.

In Iraq I really only knew a few things to be true - I knew that it was going to be hot during the day and I also knew that it was going to be dark and noisy at night.

.
When I finally left I rode out on dark and noisy military transport - a continuation of a theme. My camera doesn’t like extremely shaky environments full of low light conditions but I think I captured enough for you to understand how enjoyable the ride actually was for us. If you look at the bottom picture, cram yourself into a closet with 4-6 other people, crank up the volume to the maximum level on your speakers, and sit/stand there for three hours you’ll have a slight understanding of how “comfortable” it was

I’ve uploaded a few more pictures from my time in Iraq in the gallery - the new stuff starts on page 4

I got home and met a fantastic girl in the airport - well - I it wasn’t the first time I’ve met her but it had been quite a while since I had last seen her.

Jessica

We went home and she showed me around our house - where we had the lengthy task of unpacking looming on the horizon.

Luckily - I’m a task oriented guy and we got starting working at the task so it could be done - and so we could look forward to the party we were to have that weekend.

The house is complete with a garage and two dogs in the backyard - one of which will flop around like a fish if you ignore her.

We had a party and it was a great time despite me knowing only a handful of the people there - I met quite of few of Jessica’s friends but there names are already a mystery to me - damn short term memory. Feel free to check out more photos of the house in the gallery - thats it for now

The main point of the trip down to the desolate wasteland of Beale AFB was to complete the AFCOMAC class. I have never worked so hard since I enlisted - I’ve worked hard but its never taken that much physical effort to get the job done. We were working on a gravel covered pad and it was a dusty dirty place. Every day I had a hard time figuring out what part of my skin was tanned and what part was covered with dirt. I took a photo of myself after work so you could see what I’m talking about.

just a little dirty

Unfortunately you can’t see exactly how dirty I really was - I think the last time I was that dirty I was a little kid playing in the dirt at my grandma King’s house.

I did have a chance to visit Reno, the Biggest Little City in the World. Andy’s parents picked us up at Beale and took us down there and pretty much paid for the whole thing. It was a pretty sweet deal. I ended up loosing the money I had set aside for gambling but it was a calculated loss. I could either spend that money on booze and be bored or spend that money on gambling and get free drinks. All in all it was a wash.

Reno!

You can check out all of the photos right here

Yeah, thats about all I’m going to write.

So, in an effort to come out of my shell a little I asked if people were going out for the evening. I already knew that they were but I wanted an invite. So, along with them I went to go get my booze on. Like normal, I had to eat something first so I wandered over to Taco Hell. My thinking was that whatever I ate I had to be cool with leaving on the ground later if worst came to worst. Luckily, things turned out well for me and I didn’t have to worry about that. The bar had a special and it was fifty cent drinks for the entire night. Seeing as I wanted to be able to function in the morning I stuck to Bud Light. Sure, it tastes like crap and the alcohol content is low but it allows you to become “more social” and hang out with everyone else. If I did my normal and started drinking straight booze I would have not survived the evening. I tend to not drink on school nights because I sleep poorly; I know how I react to booze even if its a small quantity. This morning I woke up an hour late… normally this would make me late for work but seeing that I was only on the other side of base I still had a half hour to spare before I had to walk out the door. I don’t think I’ll ever drink heavily on a school night here because I’m bound to not show up for class. I also don’t want to be inebriated in the AM because driving drunk to school and showing up drunk would be a bad career move. I’ve got a test in a few hours so I need to study some more (yes, I studied last night before I went off to kill some brain cells… besides, booze only targets the weak ones right?)

Often I feel that I need to post some worthwhile content here and more often than not I’m unable to provide anything new that I didn’t scour from the internet. Lets face it, I read and see many things but find that bringing something new and unique is near impossible. We’re all doing our best to stand out in our own way; I put it out all on the table.

This weekend could be absolutely disastrous as we’re planning to imbibe massive quantities of booze. I’m not only talking about drinking beer… something that I have found myself doing with frequency here, I’m talking about binge style hammered drinking. This is an occasion to bring a camera but delete most of what happens the next morning. I’ve found that here, at least, I don’t need to drink to join the crowd. People just want me to come out and we drink, its all good. Its been a while since I’ve felt social acceptance like I have here. The environment feels must like it did in Korea, its all family.

I’m looking forward to seeing my family in the near future… its been awhile. I’m not sure what I will do while I am home but it will be nice to be back.

Hmm.. another abrasive individual. I wonder if I should really listen to the advice of my father and look at places where they don’t serve booze. I’m still stupid and stubborn for now. Then again, I might be looking for the wrong type of individual… here’s an interesting viewpoint on the whole thing.

I have a camera but it rarely moves with me whenever I get into some sort of shenanigans… I’m not sure if some of my readers want to know what brand of shenanigans I get into but I’m going to try to bring it along for my upcoming weekend that should be one to remember (if the alcohol wears off). If you’re wondering, I’m drinking when I want to and not in an effort to hang out with others. I don’t feel angry at myself for drinking and I’ve only had one night when the effects of the booze got to me. I think I’ve got that monster licked.
